Helping Your Child

There is a clear code of conduct in the school, as well as a home/school partnership contract which parents, students and staff sign at the initial interview on entry to the school. We believe that a close working relationship with parents has a vital part to play in the educational progress of our students.

We build this by ensuring that our parents are kept in touch with what is going on and feel involved through:

  • monthly newsletters

  • a copy of the student’s timetable and homework timetable

  • a detailed parents’ booklet explaining the curriculum for each year group

  • a homework diary with space for parents to comment

  • student progress reviews 3 times per year

  • an annual parents’ evening

  • our website www.ughs.org.uk

There is a PTFA (Parents, Teachers and friends of UGHS) which meets regularly to support the school and students and parents are, of course, very welcome to spend some of their spare time helping in the school.

Parents who….

attend meetings whenever they can,
support our public occasions such as plays and events,
read everything that the school sends them,
check their child’s homework,
take an interest in the work that their child is doing,
make sure that their child attends regularly and on time,
ensures their child has the correct school equipment and school uniform

……will be helping their child to be happy and successful at school.
