Administering Medicine

  1. Antibiotics/short or long term illness or condition

If your child has a short or long term illness and is prescribed medication which they need to take throughout the day, you should provide a letter giving your written consent for your child to be given the medication.

The medication must be in a suitable container, dated and labelled with your child's name, the name and strength of the medication, instructions for use, the quantity to be taken and the timing of the dosages.

If a student has been unwell but can return to school with prescribed medication, please follow the procedure above.

The school cannot administer any medication without written parental consent

  1. Asthma

If your child is an asthma sufferer they will be expected to keep their own inhaler and use it as prescribed by their doctor. It is important that you supply the school with an additional inhaler. This should be clearly marked with your child's name and class and instructions for use.

  1. Severe Allergy

If your child suffers from a severe allergic reaction and carries an epi-pen it is also important that you supply the school with an additional epi-pen. This should be clearly marked with your child's name and class and instructions for use.

  1. Headaches, Tummy aches, Sore throats etc

The school does NOT in any circumstances give students any painkillers or analgesics (such as Panadol or Ibuprofen). Students who are feeling unwell may be asked to sit or lie down in the sick room for a short while. If after 15-30 minutes there is no improvement - the parent/guardian will be called to come and collect the child.

Students are NOT permitted to come to school and spend the day in the sick room because there is no one at home. If they are well enough, they must attend classes and if they are not, they must go home.

*All medication must be handed in person to the Ms Nada in the school office.

**Please ensure you keep your child's school record up-to-date by informing the school of any health issues or change of contact details (home/mobile/work telephone numbers and address)
